Why Climb Mountains?

"Why climb mountains?" is a question all climbers are asked time and again. Few have described the lure better than Charles Houston: "The answer cannot be simple; it is compounded of such elements as the great beauty of clear cold air, of colors beyond the ordinary, of the lure of unknown regions beyond the rim of experience...[it is] the pleasure of physical fitness, the pride of conquering... the chance to be briefly free of the small concerns of our common lives..."

San Jacinto Hike

Hiked San Jacinto in preparation for Whitney at the end of the month. It was invigorating, to say the least. Started around 8:30 at the tram. Hiking started in earnest at around 9am. Made great time up to the snow line, and then very quickly learned why hiking in snow is hated by so damn much. Wow that was hard! I had some trouble at altitude, but nothing that wasn't manageable. On the Whitney trip we are going to need to take it a little slower, but that shouldn't be a problem. (more and pictures after the break)

Faire, Life, Lauren's job

Things have been good. I suppose I should have updated a few more times recently, just kinda got out of the habit.

The Ren Faire is starting up this weekend, and I'm looking forward to that. Also looking forward to training for Mt. Whitney, which I'll be climbing on the weekend of the 27th of May.

Lauren started a new job, which sounds like a good opportunity for her, and she might be traveling to Amsterdam, real soon. . . like almost right away. Which isn't ideal, I was hoping to come with her, but I'm sure she'll have a great time.

I'm still thinking about going to Coachella, and looking forward to NAB this year, should be fun. That's about it. Things haven't been extremely exciting, but moving in the right direction.
